Strength - It's Not Just for Athletes, It's Your Life Insurance
Starting around age 30, most adults lose roughly 3–5% of their muscle mass per decade, with that decline accelerating between ages 65 and 80 (Cleveland Clinic; Harvard Health). This isn't cosmetic — low relative muscle mass, a condition called sarcopenia, is independently linked to higher mortality and fall risk, regardless of how much someone weighs.
The good news: unlike a lot of aging markers, strength decline responds dramatically to targeted training — even starting later in life.

What Strength Testing Actually Measures
A real strength assessment goes beyond "how much can you lift." Clinical-grade testing looks at isometric force output in the muscle groups most responsible for daily function and fall prevention — hips, glutes, and quadriceps — measured in both seated and prone positions using dynamometry equipment (like a HUMAC NORM system), not just a hand grip or a bathroom scale.
This gives you a precise, side-by-side comparison to normative data for your age and sex — not just "you seem strong for your age."

Why It's One of the Six Core Assessments
Hip and quad strength in particular are heavily implicated in fall risk and the ability to recover from a stumble before it becomes a fall. Because strength is also one of the most trainable of the six longevity markers, it's often where clients see the fastest, most visible improvement between testing sessions.
